WaPo documents Israel-Micronesia friendship
Israel may not have many friends in the world, but it has some pretty good ones in the middle of the Pacific.
An interesting “Letter from Israel” talks about the “island mentality” that unites the Jewish state and the Pacific republics. Worth a read here.
One paragraph really grabbed me:
“Israel is a minority in the Middle East and struggling to survive,” said Micronesian President Emanuel Mori. “We are also out there. We have no enemies, only natural ones. Typhoons come, and we survive. Being surrounded by not-friendly neighbors, we kind of pity them.”
“Pity” doesn’t sound like the basis of a strong alliance, but I guess it’s better than nothing.
